Whatnot seller fees explained

Whatnot generally deducts two platform costs from a completed sale: commission and payment processing. Your exact result can also reflect category rates, promotions, shipping, refunds, and taxes on seller fees.

US categoryCommissionProcessing
Most categories8% of final sale price2.9% + $0.30
Coins & Money4% up to $1,500*2.9% + $0.30
Comics, TCG, sports singles, toys & hobbies8% up to $1,500*2.9% + $0.30

*The official schedule currently lists a limited-time 0% commission on the portion above $1,500 for eligible categories. Processing still applies to the full order value. Rates shown are US rates; other regions differ.

Commission versus payment processing

Commission is based on the item’s final sale price after a seller-funded coupon, excluding shipping and tax. Payment processing uses the total order value, which usually includes the final item price, buyer-paid shipping, and buyer-paid tax, plus the fixed transaction amount.

Example US sale

A $50 sale is not simply $50 minus 10.9%

At an 8% commission, commission is $4.00. If the buyer’s total order value is $59 after shipping and tax, processing is about $2.01(2.9% × $59 + $0.30). Estimated platform fees are therefore $6.01, before seller-paid shipping, taxes on fees, or promotions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Whatnot take from a sale?

Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping and tax?

Commission excludes shipping and buyer tax, but payment processing is generally calculated from total order value, which usually includes the item price, buyer-paid shipping, and buyer-paid tax.

Are Whatnot giveaways charged a seller fee?

Whatnot states that giveaways do not incur commission or payment processing because the buyer pays nothing, but the seller normally pays the giveaway shipping cost.
